FAQ: MDK Bookkeeping Workbook and Templates

As a small business owner myself, I’ve realized the importance of monitoring your business’s finances and keeping track of all your income and expenses. I’ve seen how difficult and time-consuming tax season can become when you don’t have a proper record of your transactions.

  • Can I record cash income and expenses?

Yes! Keeping track of your cash on hand is just as important as allocating your electronic banking systems. The spreadsheet allows you to set up a Petty Cash system so that you’re able to keep track of your cash income and expenses.

This can also be done if you choose to use an online accounting system.
  • How often will I need to complete my bookkeeping?

This all depends on you and how large your organization is. I recommend keeping up with your bookkeeping at least once a month. If your business is slightly bigger and you find it too time-consuming or difficult to remember things at the end of the month, completing your bookkeeping weekly is recommended.

  • Will it help me with savings?

Yes, it will. Whether it’s tax savings, emergency, or pension. This workbook and spreadsheet will help you allocate your savings account or allocate money to be used for a specific purpose.
  • Is it for personal or business use?

It was designed for small business owners in mind. I have used it for my church at one stage as well as for my husband’s non-profit. However, it can be used for personal bookkeeping just as well!

It helps you keep track of your income and expenses, whether you’re a business or family.
  • Does the tutorial video teach me how to do everything myself? Will I need to hire you after I buy this?

The tutorial video takes you through the bookkeeping spreadsheet step-by-step. It is a 25-minute in-depth training video teaching you how to do everything yourself! You should not need to hire me after you purchase this workbook. I’m happy to answer any simple questions you might have over email.

You may want to hire me to help you get your accounts set up on an online accounting platform, but the workbook is still helpful to get background information, as well as a few of my preferred accounting software.
  • Do I need to have an accounting background in order to use this?

No, you do not. While some basic understanding of bookkeeping would be helpful (of course), this workbook is designed for the business owner with no accounting background whatsoever.

Basic Excel knowledge is advantageous as the bookkeeping spreadsheet is set up in Excel; however, all the formulas have already been created for you and are set up for you to begin using immediately. All you need to is type in the number and press enter.
  • Can I use my online invoicing app along with the bookkeeping spreadsheet?

Yes! That’s actually a great way to do it. Even with my own personal accounting system, I still use my separate online invoicing app.
  • Will this still be beneficial for me if I’d like to move to an online accounting software?

Yes. Whether you would like to use an online accounting software or my bookkeeping spreadsheet included, this workbook will be super helpful for you. It gives you a basic understanding and background of accounting as well as prepares you for when tax season rolls around and what your tax man/woman will require from you.

  • Is this workbook made for various countries or just American business owners?

This workbook is designed for business owners all around the world. My clients range from businesses in South Africa, America, Belize, Taiwan, Singapore, and more. While the workbook will not teach you how to prepare taxes in your specific country, it will teach you how to keep track of specific income and expenses so that you’re prepared and have all you need when tax season arrives.
